The Department of Forensic Medicine houses an accredited bone laboratory. The hard tissue laboratory masters preparation of hard tissue/bone for plastic embedding and slicing for microscopy. This method is particularly valuable for the purpose of visualization of osteocartilaginous structures, e.g. the sacroiliac joint and the facet joints of the cervical spine. The laboratory handles systematic sampling and handling for routine purpose, as well as specialised approaches depending on particular needs related to research projects. Hence, production of histological sections from decalcified and undecalcified osteocartilaginous preparations, general histopathology and special stains are all known requests. Within the research group there is advanced experience into stereological design and research, and specialised measuring equipment (NewCAST) is at it’s disposal on more locations
